It's been a while! and I have a great excuse!

Hey everyone! I hope you're doing well :)

I've been wanting to post an update for a few weeks now, but I know there's no way of posting things... without letting the cat out of the bag! As some of you may already know, Jared and I found out that we are expecting! EEK! If you look a few posts back, you'll see that I posted about random sickness? and feeling crappy? Well this little human in my belly was the cause for all that. I thought that it was way too early to feel symptoms, but from what I've read online it is possible! Weird!

I just thought that I would keep a little "diary" if you will, of how the last few weeks have been. January 9th was the first day I was feeling yucky... and for that whole week... a little bit into the next week. On the 13th, I went and got the blood test done- it was supposed to be the most accurate test. It came back negative? I must have had the dates a couple of days off or something? I started feeling better around the 17th/18th, so I didn't really think much of it... I assumed it must have been a random bug.

A couple weeks later AuntFlo was a no-show, so I knew something was up. I waited for her the whole week and she never came (having bothered my dr. the couple weeks before and getting the neg, I didn't want to call them if I didn't need to). January 23rd was the night we got the big news! On my way home from work that day, I decided that I would grab a test just to see. After dinner I went upstairs, did my thing! About 30 seconds later two faint pink lines started to appear. I thought I was tricking myself, or seeing things, so I frantically yelled for Jared to come upstairs! By the time the three minute timer was up, there was no mistaking! There was a baby in the making :)

Just to make sure, I took the second test (bought a 2pk.). Of course it was + too!

That about covers what were weeks 3 and 4 (from what I can calculate?). Currently I'm about part way through week 6! (when I began this post lol) I go for my first prenatal appointment Feb. 7th, so by then I'll be another week along!

I just thought I would throw some baby facts down here (until I post this, I'm writing it while all the thoughts are fresh! But I don't want to post anything until we're out of the "danger" zone)

your baby's the size of an appleseed!
Your embryo is now measurable -- though at week five, it's a wee .13 inches -- and she's gearing up for much more growth. In fact, in the next week, she'll almost double in size. Grow baby grow!

  • The embryo doesn't look like much more than a tadpole right now, but at five weeks, she's already starting to form major organs (heart, stomach, liver, kidney) and systems (digestive, circulatory, nervous).
Throughout this week, and the week before- I had been getting cramps. But they didn't feel normal. They were more up my sides, than down where normal cramps are. I found out this is my uterus expanding. These cramps aren't as bad as regular mens. ones, but they aren't comfy! It's been nice to have my appetite back too! I don't think I've experienced any "cravings" yet- but I'm just waiting to see what I want to eat over the next few months!

your baby's the size of a sweet pea!
The average embryo at week 6 is about .25 inches and will double in size again next week. Wow!

  • Obviously, she's growing like crazy!
  • She's also circulating blood with her increasingly more sophisticated circulatory sytem.
  • She's about to get cuter too, since she's starting to sprout a nose, eyes, ears, chin and cheeks.
  • And she might even be wiggling her (paddle-like) hands and feet.
your baby's the size of a blueberry!
Your .51-inch embryo doesn't exactly tip the scales just yet but she's developing like crazy. She's already doubled in size since last week.

  • She's generating about one hundred new brain cells each minute!
  • Not only is her brain becoming more complex, but her heart is too.
  • Also important: She's developing a permanent set of kidneys
  • Her arm and leg joints are now forming.
Turns out that I was measuring at exactly 7 weeks at my ultra sound. So I was actually a week behind for everything. Weird! Seeing the ultra sound was pretty neat. You could barely make out the flicker of a heartbeat, and the baby looked like a little blobby... which is a nickname that has stuck for the moment lol.
your baby's the size of a raspberry!
Now she weighs in (yay!) at about .04 ounces and measures about .63 inches. This week, she's growing about a milimeter each day.

  • You can't feel it yet, but she's moving those arms and legs like crazy!
  • Her fingers and toes are now only slightly webbed, and her tail (yes, she had one) is gone.
  • Fun fact: your baby's taste buds are now forming

your baby's the size of a green olive!
She's gaining steam! At 9 weeks, your fetus measures around .9 inches and weighs about .07 ounces.

  • This is a milestone. She's no longer an embryo -- now she's a fetus!
  • She's developing more distinct facial features.
  • And she might now have a strong enough heartbeat to be picked up by a fetal doppler.

your baby's the size of a prune!
Now, she's about 1.2 inches long and weighs about .14 ounces. Her body length will almost double in the next three weeks.

  • Baby has working arm joints, and her cartilage and bones are forming.
  • Her vital organs are fully developed and they're starting to function.
  • Her fingernails and hair are starting to appear, too.
  • Plus, she's swallowing and kicking in there. (Can you believe it?!)

your baby's the size of a lime!
Your fetus is about 1.6 inches long, and she's got about a 1:1 head to body ratio. She now weighs in at about .25 ounces.

  • You can't see it, but she's moving fluidly and gracefully in there.
  • Her skin is see-through, but she's on her way to looking more like a baby.
  • Her fingers and toes aren't webbed anymore.
  • Tooth buds, hair follicles and nail beds are forming.

your baby's the size of a plum!
The average fetus at 12 weeks is about 2.1 inches long and .49 ounces. Now that she's got pretty much all her parts, her main job is to keep on growing.

  • Most of her critical systems are fully formed!
  • She's about to enter the growth and maturation stage, in which her organs and tissues will grow and develop rapidly.
  • She's now developing her reflexes -- if you poke her body, she'll likely move.
  • She's opening and closing her fingers and curling her toes, too.
  • Her brain is developing fast!

your baby's the size of a peach!
She's about 2.9 inches long and weighs about .81 ounces, and -- proportion-wise -- her head's now about 1/3 the size of her body (remember? It used to be bigger!).

  • Can you believe she's forming vocal cords and teeth?!
  • And even though she's still teeny, she already has fingerprints.
  • Her intestines are moving from the umbilical cord to their more permanent place, in her tummy.

So you can see that I've had quite the excuse for absent posts! I was too excited to write anything, in case I let the cat out of the bag too early! Also, I'm not sure why all these posts say "SHE", we clearly have no idea what we're having yet (we're still not sure if we're going to find out?)

Enjoy! :)
xoxo Breanne
